At what age should you start getting Botox?

Botox | New Look Skin Center Medical Spa in Glendale, Encino and Irvine, CA

Botox is a very popular procedure, and for good reason. But Botox isn’t just for older patients anymore. More and more often, younger patients are having Botox injections – but what age is the right age to start?

What is Botox?

Botox has been in use for decades, is considered to be very safe, and is FDA approved. It is made from the botulinum toxin, and it works by blocking the signals between the muscles and the nerves, which relaxes wrinkles. Besides cosmetic uses, it can also be used to help patients with medical issues, such as migraines and bladder problems.

There are many benefits to Botox: it is less invasive, less expensive, and less hassle than a facelift or other surgical procedure, but it provides great results when it comes to removing wrinkles and making the patient look younger. Getting Botox only takes a few minutes per session, and the effects can last for months. There are very few possible side effects to getting Botox, and those are very mild.

When can you start getting Botox?

Younger patients are requesting Botox to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place. Botox can “slow down” the action of muscles that cause wrinkles, such as around the mouth and eyes. Botox is approved for patients who are 18 years or older,. Most experts say that mid to late 20s or early 30s is the right time to start Botox. Other patients just wait until they start noticing lines beginning to appear.

One benefit of preventative Botox is that it can weaken the muscles, which means that as you get older you may not need as much Botox as a patient who starts getting it when they are older. It will last longer and you’ll need fewer injections. However, you also don’t want to overdo it on the Botox – too much can actually make you look older than you are.

Your doctor will be able to advise you on Botox and if it is right for you to begin in your 20s, or if there are other solutions for your concerns. Call New Look Skin Center today for more information on Botox. Call (818) 662-5005 today!
