So many people are already starting the work on getting their body summer-ready, so don’t forget to look into getting laser hair removal done at this time, too. There are many reasons why now is the time to start laser hair removal treatment. Here are a few:
It can take several months to achieve optimal results. It takes an average of 6-8 sessions to get rid of most of the hair in a specific area. A series of treatments is necessary for permanent results since your hair grows in cycles, and laser only targets hair follicles in the active-growth phase. The standard time between treatments is 4-6 weeks.
You will need to avoid sun exposure for several weeks. During the summer months, it’s difficult to stay out of the sun. You will need to avoid sunbathing and tanning beds for at least four weeks before treatment and two weeks after treatment. Even the slightest tan makes it harder for light to pass through your skin during treatment. After laser hair removal, you will be advised to use sunblock with an SPF of at least 30 for two weeks. You must avoid hot showers and scrubbing or exfoliation for 24 hours.
Preparing your skin takes some time. You should avoid waxing, plucking, threading and bleaching the treatment area for 4-6 weeks before laser hair removal.
Patients on certain medications have to wait for treatment. It’s important to discuss all of your medications with our team during your consultation. You may have to wait a few weeks or months before getting laser hair removal. If you take Accutane, for example, then you must wait six months after you discontinue use. If you are on any antibiotics, you must wait up to two weeks depending on the antibiotic. Do not stop any medication without consulting your doctor.
Laser hair removal is safe. It has been FDA-approved for permanent hair reduction since 1997. So what are you waiting for?
