BOTOX® / Dysport® In Irvine, CA

BOTOX / Dysport Treatment In Irvine, CA

BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments are non-surgical treatments that reduce the appearance of wrinkles that form due to repetitive facial movements. These treatments involve injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin into targeted facial muscles, temporarily blocking the nerve signals that control the contraction of these muscles. As a result, the muscles relax, leading to a smoother appearance of the overlying skin. New Look Skin Center offers BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments that address common areas such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar frown lines. Beyond cosmetic applications, these injections are also used to manage conditions like excessive sweating and chronic migraines.

BOTOX® and Dysport® in Irvine, CA, are suitable for adults looking to reduce wrinkles that appear as a result of muscle movement. Ideal candidates are in good health, with moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles. Results typically begin to appear within 24 hours to three days after treatment, with full effects visible in about two weeks. The results can last three to four months, depending on the individual’s skin type and the area treated. Regular follow-up sessions are recommended for those looking to maintain their refreshed appearance. If you would like more information or to schedule a consultation, please contact New Look Skin Center in Irvine, CA, today.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Differences between BOTOX® and Dysport® are primarily attributed to formulation, onset of action, and diffusion. Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are FDA-approved neuromodulators that use botulinum toxin to temporarily relax facial muscles, which results in the disappearance of frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. However, Dysport® has smaller protein molecules, which some studies suggest may allow it to diffuse more widely and take effect slightly faster than BOTOX®. It means that Dysport® might be preferred for treating larger areas, while BOTOX® may offer more precision in smaller, targeted areas. Despite these differences, both treatments provide similar results and are commonly used to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

FAQ

Good candidates for BOTOX® and Dysport® are adults with moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles and good overall health. These treatments are particularly effective for reducing wrinkles caused by movements of the facial muscles.

You may start to see the results of BOTOX® and Dysport® within 24 to 72 hours after treatment, with full effects visible after about two weeks. During this time, the treated muscles gradually relax, resulting in fewer wrinkles and fine lines. By the two-week mark, you can expect your appearance to become smoother and more youthful, with the full benefits of the treatment evident.

The results of BOTOX® and Dysport® typically last three to four months, depending on the individual and the area treated. After this period, muscle activity gradually returns, and wrinkles may reappear, making follow-up treatments necessary to maintain the desired effects.

There is minimal to no downtime after BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments. Some patients may experience mild side effects like swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site, which usually resolves quickly.

Before BOTOX® and Dysport® treatment, avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol to prevent bruising. After treatment, avoid lying down for four hours and refrain from strenuous activities or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours.

During BOTOX® and Dysport® treatment, the provider cleanses the treatment area and uses a fine needle to inject the solution into specific muscles. The procedure is quick, typically taking 15 to 30 minutes, and most patients feel little discomfort during the procedure.

Botox/Dysport is the treatment of choice among adults who would like to smooth dynamic facial wrinkles in the upper area of the face. It is on the forehead and around the eyes that lines are often related to muscle movements. Botox also can be used for dimpled chin, gummy smile, down-turned smile, as well as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of underarms, palms or soles) and chronic Migraine.

Your health care professional will determine that a patient is a good candidate for Botox/Dysport if they:

  • Are in good general health
  • Older than 18 years
  • Have lines and creases that can be reduced with a neuromodulator
  • Have a realistic expectation for improvement

Botox is not suitable for:

  • Patients who have had an allergic reaction to any botulinum toxin product
  • Patients who have an active skin infection in the treatment area
  • Women who are pregnant or nursing
  • Patients with a nerve or muscle condition
  • People who have a severe infection or illness

Every person reacts differently to Botox/Dysport. The faster the body metabolism is, the sooner the effect will start fading. Individuals how exercise every day, or using sauna/Jacuzzi often, will need more frequent treatments. Regularly patients may schedule to re-do the treatment as often as 2-3 months or up to 6 months.

The most important step to take before getting Botox or Dysport is to find a qualified provider. All injections at New Look Skin Center are performed by licensed nurse practitioners and registered nurses who have received extensive training in the use of injectables. Once a trusted provider has been located, the next step is to schedule an appointment.

One of the major advantages of Botox/Dysport treatment is that side effects are very mild. There is no or little down time after the treatment. They must avoid laying down or bending over for four hours after the treatment, as well as avoid any massaging of the area, exercise and use of sauna/jacuzzi or any kind of tanning for 24 hours.

Botox has been one of the most performed nonsurgical treatments in decades. The most common side effects of Botox treatment are transient redness at injection sites, minor swelling and bruising. Additional side effects that are less common are mild headache, drooping eyelid, dry eye, and asymmetry.

Botox/Dysport injections are administered with a gentle hand. A tiny needle is being used for inserting the product just beneath the skin, where it absorbs into the muscle over the course of a few days. Patients tolerate this treatment very well without the use of anesthetic. However, if you are concerned about discomfort, talk to your provider. You can use a numbing cream which your health care provider will prescribe it for you, or a small ice pack may be applied right before or right after injections to maintain full comfort.

Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators, and they only work on dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle contractions under the skin. These muscle contractions are involved when we form expressions such as frowning or showing surprise. Go ahead and make a frown. You can feel the muscles around your eyes, between your eyebrows, and on your forehead contract when you do so. These are the areas where neuromodulators are used.

At New Look, we use Botox and Dysport to erase or dramatically lessen the appearance of crow’s feet at the outside of the eyes, frown lines (colloquially known as the 11s) between the eyebrows, and on forehead lines.

Some people have a slight bit of swelling at the injection sites. This is typically true when they have any sort of injection. If this occurs, it usually only lasts a few hours. It can be controlled with the application of a cold compress.

With these neuromodulators, there is some variation in the duration of your results based on a patient’s individual metabolism. On average, patients can expect Botox and Dysport to erase their crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines for about four months.

These are the original “lunchtime treatments,” because they take just 10-15 minutes, and the patient can return to work immediately after their session.

There isn’t anything you need to do to prepare for your injection session at New Look.

As mentioned above, Botox and Dysport work their magic by simply blocking the nerve messages from getting to the muscle. This keeps the injected muscle from contracting. Wrinkles that form above these muscle contractions when we form expressions are called dynamic wrinkles. That is where Botox and Dysport are king.

But there is another kind of wrinkle called a “static” wrinkle. Static wrinkles form from sun damage, declining collagen production, personal habits such as smoking, environmental factors, stress, and thinning skin with age. Static wrinkles have nothing to do with muscle contractions; they show themselves at all times once the skin is damaged.

That’s where dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm, come in. When injected beneath a wrinkle or an area of volume loss, such as the cheeks, dermal fillers are true to their name — they simply fill in the space and push the wrinkled skin back upwards. The most popular dermal fillers, Juvéderm and Restylane, are called “natural” fillers because they are made predominantly from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our bodies and is responsible for hydrating, plumping, and firming the skin. When a filler like Juvéderm is injected beneath a wrinkle, the hyaluronic acid binds with nearby water molecules and this instantly plumps the skin, erasing the wrinkle.

Bottom line? Botox works on dynamic wrinkles only. These occur on the upper third of the face. Dermal fillers only work on static wrinkles that occur mainly on the lower two thirds of the face.
