PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy AND PRF-Platelet Rich Fibrin Injections
Pre-Post Instructions
PRECARE INSTRUCTIONS: TO PREPARE FOR THE BLOOD DRAW ASSOCIATED WITH PRP/PRF THERAPY
- PRP/PRF Therapy is very safe because cells from the patient’s own blood are used, which means there are no preservatives and no chance of the body rejecting the cells. The primary risks and discomforts are related to the blood draw where there is a slight pinch to insert the needle for collection and there is a potential for bruising at the site.
- For optimal results and to decrease the chance of bruising at the draw site, please avoid all blood thinning medications and herbal supplements for 1 week prior to your appointment. Avoid taking Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDS) such as such as Ibuprofen, Motrin and Aleve. In addition, very high doses of some Vitamins and supplements can thin your blood and increase the chance of bruising. Please notify your provider if you are taking Coumadin, Plavix, or any other blood thinners for a medical condition.
- During the course of your treatments, notify our staff of any changes to your medical history, health status, or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.

Laser Tattoo Removal before and after instructions and Q&A
As a client you have the right to be informed about your treatment so that you may make the decision whether to proceed for laser tattoo removal or decline after knowing the risks involved. This form is designed to provide you with the information you will need to make an informed decision about whether to have treatment performed and help to inform you prior to your consent for treatment about the risks, side effects and possible complications related to laser tattoo removal.
The Candela Alex Laser produces an intense but gentle burst of light that allows selective destruction of the overabundance of melanin seen in benign pigmented lesions or fragments and removes tattoo pigments without damaging surrounding tissue. The purpose of this procedure is to attempt removal of the tattoo or to make the pattern as unrecognizable as possible by lightening the pigment pattern. To protect your eyes from intense light, you will have your eyes covered with an opaque material or wear laser protective glasses.
Alternative treatment methods include camouflaging with make-up, tattooing over with a second tattoo, abrasive treatments, acid treatments, treatments with a CO2 laser, cutting out (with tissue expansion or skin grafting if needed), or no treatment.
Your initial consult will help us to determine whether you are a good candidate for laser tattoo removal and whether you can expect any treatment-resistant areas, etc. Your tattoo will be photographed and measured and the operative protocol will be reviewed with you.
EVAULUATION: All tattoos are evaluated in terms of:
- Type of tattoo
- Home tattoo/amateur tattoos
- Professional tattoos
- Permanent makeup
- Traumatic tattoos
- Length of time tattoo has been present
- Location of tattoo
- Color of tattoo and type and amount of ink being used
- Skin type
How many treatments are needed and how often? –. The time required for a tattoo to fade depends on many factors such as the depth of penetration of the ink, the color or the ink, the density of the ink, the type of ink used, whether the tattoo was done by an amateur or professional, the patient’s immune system and skin type, and location of the tattoo. It is not unusual to require as many as 8 to10 treatments to achieve maximum resolution. In some cases it may require more treatments depending on the factors listed above. Treatments are scheduled 6 weeks apart.
How long does it take to see a difference? – It is not uncommon for it to take 6 months or more before there is significant fading. Most people that commit to this treatment need to be patient, persistent and committed to the long haul. Tattoos fade reliably but slowly.
What color tattoos respond best? – Black and blue work best. Red also responds well. Yellow is very difficult and green tattoos may end up yellow because only the blue component of the green color may respond.
Do all tattoos respond? – A non-professional tattoo may not respond to treatment. This is because it was probably placed at the wrong level in the skin where it may not be responsive to the laser light.
How long does it take? – A tattoo that occupies approximately 2 inches by 2 inches will take 10 to 15 minutes to treat with the laser, and about 15-30 minutes with the acid.
Pre-Treatment Instructions – Avoid sun/tanning for 4 weeks prior to treatment. Shave the area to be treated and remove all makeup or cosmetics prior to treatment.
PROCEDURE: You will apply either an anesthetic cream or Lidocaine injection prior to your procedure. Treatment times will vary depending on your tolerance to the laser, but can usually be accomplished very rapidly due to the speed
of the laser.
POST TREATMENT: Immediately after you tattoo laser session, the area will have a whitish/grey or red
discoloration with pinpoint bleeding and some oozing and blistering. Swelling may appear and last for several days.
The area treated will remain sensitive for several hours after treatment. This usually subsides with icing and application
of an antibiotic ointment. You will then be instructed in home care of the tattoo, which will include the application of
antibiotic ointment and dry dressing. You may notice some pinpoint bleeding or crusting that resolves with gradual
fading of the tattoo pigments over the next 6-8 weeks.
When the discoloration disappears and the healing is completed, the lesion may not have lightened much yet. It will
take a few weeks after the discoloration disappears before the session starts to lighten or you can notice an
improvement.
RECOMMENDED CARE:
- Ice, wrapped in a soft cloth, may be applied to the treated area to reduce discomfort of any swelling that may
occur, and will reduce inflammation. - Do not rub, scratch or pick at the laser treated area.
- Avoid pressure from tight clothes.
- Avoid contact sports of excessive sweating during the healing period when the lesion is a reddish/purple discoloration.
- The laser treated area should not be exposed directly to the sun during your entire treatment session. A suntan will increase the pigment content of your skin and thereby decrease the effectiveness of the treatment. A sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher is recommended and should be applied whenever the treated area is exposed to sunlight.
- Clean the treated area daily with a mild soap and water. Gently pat the treated area dry. Apply a thin coating of antibiotic ointment either Polysporin or Bacitracin, twice each day, and cover with another sterile dressing until healed (7-14 days).
- Plain Tylenol is usually all that is needed for discomfort (avoid aspirin)
- If the area looks infected (thick honey colored crust and oozing, or spreading redness), you experience unusual discomfort or bleeding, or your temperature becomes elevated, please call our office immediately.
Compliance with the aftercare guidelines is crucial for healing, prevention of scarring, and hyper-pigmentation.
Aftercare guidelines include avoiding the sun for 2 months after the procedure. If it is necessary to be in the sun, a sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater must be used.
CONTRAINDICATION: History of previous gold therapy for arthritis. Sun exposure to the treated area should be
avoided. We cannot treat tattoos around the eyes or permanent makeup. Injectable lidocaine may not be used on digits
(fingers or toes). We do not treat patients with history of keloid scaring. We do not treat patients who are pregnant,
diabetic, active infections, compromised immune system, coagulation disorders, photosensitivity/taking any
medications or foods that may cause photosensitivity or skin types V or higher.
COMPLICATIONS: The following problems may occur with the tattoo removal system:
- The possible risks of the procedure include but are not limited to pain, purpura, swelling, reddening, mild
burning, bruising or blistering, scaring, crusting/scab formation, ingrown hairs, infection A brownish/red
darkening of the skin (known as hyperpigmentation) or lightening of the skin (known as hypopigmentation)
may occur. This usually resolves in weeks, but it can take up to 3-6 months to heal. Permanent color change is a
risk. Loss of freckles or pigmented lesions can occur. - There is a risk of scarring.
- Textual and/or color changes in the skin can occur and can be permanent. Many of the cosmetic tattoos
and body tattoos are made with iron oxide pigments. Iron oxide can turn red-brown or black. Titanium oxide
and other pigments may also turn black. This black or dark color may be un-removable. Because of the
immediate whitening of the exposed treated area by the laser, there can be a temporary obscuring of ink, which
can make it difficult or impossible to notice a specific color change from the tattoo removal process. - Infection: Although infection following treatment is unusual, bacterial, fungal and viral infections can occur.
Herpes simplex virus infections around the mouth can occur following a treatment. This applies to both
individuals with a past history of herpes simplex virus infections and individuals with no known history of
herpes simplex virus infections in the mouth area. If any type of skin infection occur, additional treatments or
medical antibiotics may be necessary. - Bleeding: Pinpoint bleeding can occur in the following treatment procedures. Should bleeding occur, additional
treatment may be necessary. - Allergic Reactions: There have been reports of hypersensitivity to the various tattoo pigments during the tattoo
removal process especially if the tattoo pigment contained Mercury, cobalt or chromium. Upon dissemination,
the pigments can induce a severe allergic reaction that can occur with each successive treatment. Noted in some
patients are superficial erosions, bruising, blistering, milia, redness and swelling which can last up to many
months, years or permanently.
For best results, multiple treatments will be necessary to achieve desired results. The total number of treatments
required varies and cannot reliably be predicted. There is no guarantee, warranty or assurance regarding the outcome or
any improvements of your condition due to this procedure. Complete tattoo removal is not always possible as tattoos
were meant to be permanent.
