Your Top BOTOX® Preparation Tips

Botox | New Look Skin Center Medical Spa in Glendale, Encino and Irvine, CA

Developing wrinkles is a natural part of aging. However, not all wrinkles are alike. There are two distinct types: dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are those that appear during facial expressions—such as smiling, frowning, or furrowing your brow—and are the kind that BOTOX® is best suited to combat (though it does help with static wrinkles as well). In order to ensure that your Botox treatment is as effective as possible, there are a few preparation tips that you’ll want to keep in mind in the days leading up to your appointment.

Avoid Certain Medications

In order to ensure that your Botox works as effectively as possible, you’ll need to cut out a variety of common medications from your routine for a few days to a week before your appointment. This can include anything from aspirin and ibuprofen to St. John’s Wort. This includes certain supplements as well, so your safest option is to consult with your skincare expert on what medications and supplements you should temporarily cut out.

Stay Well Hydrated

Though this is essential advice to keep your body healthy and help you feel your best in general, it is also crucial to remember before your Botox appointments—as well as after! Water is a critical component of keeping your skin well-hydrated, and well-hydrated skin helps to flush out toxins from your face, as well as the rest of your body. So if you want the best results possible from your Botox appointment, be sure to drink enough water leading up to it.

Refrain From Any Alcohol

However, when it comes to keeping yourself well hydrated, be sure that you stick to water and juices and avoid anything containing alcohol, such as beer, wine, hard seltzers, and mixed drinks. That’s because alcohol thins out your blood, which can affect how your body receives the Botox injections and how it settles into your skin. Therefore, ideally, you’ll want to avoid it the whole week beforehand. However, the absolute minimum is at least 24 hours before your Botox appointment.

Ask Plenty of Questions

Finally, the best thing to do is ask plenty of questions to ensure you know everything that you need to know before your Botox treatment. And if you have any questions about Botox, be sure to give New Look Skin Center a call at 818-662-5005—located in Glendale, Encino, and Irvine, CA!
